There are people earning ₦600,000 monthly whose parents believe they earn ₦200,000.
And sometimes, we understand why.
The moment certain relatives discover that you’re earning reasonably well, your salary somehow becomes the family emergency fund.
Someone needs school fees. Somebody’s rent has expired. Another person needs capital to start a business. Someone’s phone needs to be changed to an iPhone.
Then there’s the uncle who needs ₦100,000 urgently and promises to return it on Friday.
Which Friday? Nobody knows.
Meanwhile, you’re also paying your own bills, saving, and trying to build something for yourself.
But there’s another side to the argument.
Some people believe hiding your income from your parents or spouse is dishonest, especially when those people supported you before you started earning.
So we’re curious.
Should your parents, siblings, or romantic partner know exactly how much you earn?
Or is your salary something you should be entitled to keep private, regardless of your relationship with anyone?
