Chad to grant visa-free entry to all African citizens from January 1

By Theophilus Adedokun

The Republic of Chad says it will remove entry visa requirements for all African nationals, with the policy taking effect on January 1, 2027.

Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby said the decision was a step towards strengthening African unity.

He said the move will make free movement of people and goods across the continent a practical reality.

With the announcement, Chad becomes the eighth African nation to implement a blanket visa-free policy for citizens of the continent.

Other African countries that have extended similar open-door policies to Africans include the Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.

In May, Togo announced that Africans with a valid passport can travel to the country without visas.
