I am not a hater, but any celebrity who uses drugs deserves to be jailed. It often starts as recreational use for them, but then it escalates into full-time consumption and public display.

Despite the efforts of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency to curb the sale and use of drugs, the root problem is not just being overlooked, it is subtly encouraged.

Reports recently showed that over 13 million youths engage in drug use monthly in Nigeria this year. The cause is not far-fetched. Many youths look up to celebrities, particularly musicians, as role models, and they try to emulate what they see. Many of these musicians not only smoke marijuana, they do it in public spaces such as concerts and clubs. Some even go further by posting images or videos of themselves online.

This behavior, which has existed in Nigerian society for a long time, contributes significantly to the spread of drug use. Until NDLEA takes strong action against these celebrities and makes an example of one of them, instead of appointing them as ambassadors, the message will not be taken seriously.

This is supported by the fact that when a celebrity who was promoting fraud was arrested and prosecuted, others became more careful about openly supporting fraud.
