UK Raises ILR Waiting Period to 10 Years for Most Migrant

The United Kingdom Government has announced plans to increase the standard qualifying period for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) from five to 10 years for most migrants under its new Earned Settlement policy.

ILR allows migrants to live and work permanently in the UK without needing to renew their visas.

Under the proposed changes, high earners earning above £125,000 annually and eligible top talent may qualify after three years. Certain professionals, including doctors, nurses and teachers, may retain a five-year route, while most other migrants will face a 10-year wait.

Some refugees could face waiting periods of up to 30 years, depending on their circumstances.

For Nigerians planning to Japa, this could mean spending more years before securing permanent residency.

With the cost of relocating and a possible 10-year wait, is the UK still worth it?

Let's hear your thoughts!
