Everybody wants a better life.
For some people, it's a scholarship. For others, it's a job offer, a chance to earn in foreign currency, or the hope of escaping financial pressure at home.
But in the rush to leave Nigeria, one thing must never be overlooked: not every opportunity abroad is what it claims to be.
📰 THE NEWS
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) reportedly received 105 Nigerians repatriated from Ghana following an operation targeting cybercrime syndicates. The agency urged Nigerians to exercise caution when considering overseas job offers, scholarships and other relocation opportunities, warning against suspicious recruiters and promises that seem too good to be true.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR ANYONE PLANNING TO JAPA
Sometimes, an offer looks so good that you ignore the warning signs. A recruiter promises a huge salary, someone demands an urgent processing fee, or an employer pressures you to travel before you've properly checked the details.
That dream can quickly turn into a painful experience.
📌 Before accepting an overseas opportunity:
✅ Verify the employer, school or organisation independently.
✅ Read your contract and understand the salary, accommodation and working conditions.
✅ Check visa requirements through official channels.
✅ Be cautious of suspicious fees and pressure to travel immediately.
✅ Share your plans with someone you trust.
⚠️ Please don't let desperation make you ignore warning signs. A genuine opportunity should withstand proper checks.
Japa should be about building a better future, not putting your safety and freedom at risk.
You can dream big and work towards relocating without rushing into an offer you haven't verified.
Share this with someone searching for jobs abroad, processing a visa or planning to relocate. The right information at the right time can help someone make a safer decision. ❤️
