A BETTER LIFE ABROAD, BUT AT WHAT COST?

The heartbreaking death of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong in New York has left many people saddened.

Javits, a Ghanaian teenager who moved to the United States about a year ago to live with his father, was shot while reportedly walking to school in the Bronx. His death has raised concerns about the safety of young people, especially those adjusting to life in a new country.

His father has also spoken about alleged bullying his son experienced before the incident, although authorities have not confirmed whether it was connected to the shooting.

This tragedy brings an important reality into conversations about relocation.

Many families move abroad hoping to give their children better education, improved opportunities and a brighter future. But beyond getting a visa, securing accommodation and finding employment, safety, emotional well-being and having a reliable support system matter too.

Relocation should be about building a better life, not just moving to a different country.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Javits's family and everyone affected by this painful loss. May his family find the strength to bear this difficult time.

What do you think families should pay more attention to when relocating abroad with their children: education, safety, emotional support or all three?

Let's have a thoughtful conversation.
