A Second Chance for Amina

Amina lost her husband, Kabiru, he slept and never woke. Amina was just 35. He was her first love, her calm, her provider. His sudden death left her shattered with two children to raise and a heart full of pain.

For 15 years, she wore her widowhood like armor. She focused on her children, built a small tailoring business and stayed busy. Everyone in her community respected her strength, but deep inside, Amina felt like something inside her had gone quiet.

Then came Usman.

He moved into the neighborhood after retiring from civil service in Kaduna. A soft-spoken widower with a kind smile. They first spoke at a birthday party in the area, just a polite greeting, somehow, he kept showing up. Helping with her shop sign, bringing fruit from the market, walking beside her without asking for much.

At first, Amina kept her guard up. Over time, she found herself smiling more, laughing again, listening when he talked.

One day, as they sat under a mango tree near her house, Usman looked at her and said, “Life didn’t end when we lost them. Maybe we were meant to help each other live again.”

Tears welled in her eyes. She didn’t expect to feel love again, but she did.

At 50, Amina said yes, not just to Usman, but to joy, to softness, to life again.
