The Moment I Lost Him: A Wife’s Regret

I never thought I’d be telling this story not because I’m proud of it, but because it still haunts me.

Kenny, my husband, is a good man. He works hard, loves deeply and never let his responsibilities slip not once. We have two beautiful children together and if you asked anyone, they’d tell you I had the dream family. But sometimes, even in the middle of comfort, the heart wanders.

Kenny was always busy, long hours, late nights, early mornings. Somewhere along the way, I began to feel invisible, unloved, unseen. I tried to talk to him, but he always seemed distracted, too tired to listen. I started filling that void with someone who did listen, someone who made me feel noticed.

It started small. A few conversations, then longer ones. Eventually, it turned into something physical something I never imagined I’d do. That day, I didn’t know Kenny would be coming home early. He had left the house that morning like he always did. I didn’t know that would be the day everything would collapse. I invited the man I was secretly chatting with for weeks, over to my house and few minutes later Kenny walked in and saw us kissing.

I’ll never forget the look on his face.

He didn’t say much just screamed in a way that shattered me inside, dropped his laptop bag and walked out. I ran after him but he drove off really fast.

He didn’t come back home that night or the next. He stayed away for weeks. I called, I begged, I cried, still nothing.

He had given me love, stability, loyalty and I returned it with betrayal.

I lost a good man not because he wasn’t enough, but because I didn’t know how to appreciate what I had and now, I live with that silence between us, the kind that no apology can fully erase.

Sometimes the biggest regret is not what you lost, but how you lost it.
