At 32, the pressure from my family to “settle down” was louder than ever. The worst part is I hadn’t been in a relationship in over two years. The constant questions, the side-eyes at family gatherings and the unsolicited advice had become overwhelming. So, I decided to do something radical for me, at least.

I booked a two-week solo vacation at a serene resort, determined to disconnect from the pressure and reconnect with myself. No expectations. Just peace.

By day four, I was feeling lighter. On a whim, I signed up for a beginner’s dance class. That’s where I met Ben, my dance partner for the day. He was handsome, warm and confident. We barely got through a basic step before laughing like old friends. It was refreshing.

The next morning, fate stepped in again. I bumped into Ben on my way to breakfast. We ended up eating together, and what started as casual conversation turned into hours of sharing dreams, childhood stories and perspectives on life. He was witty, thoughtful and one of the most genuine people I’d met in a long time.

Then came the twist: he was four years younger than me. I’d always imagined myself with an older man someone “more established,” I thought. So, when Ben asked me out, I hesitated and then, I said no.

The two weeks flew by. I had fun, I felt free, but as I packed my bags and waited for my ride back to “real life,” I felt an odd ache like I was leaving something (or someone) behind. Just then, Ben showed up one last time. He looked me straight in the eye and said:

“Give us a chance. You won’t regret it.”

Well, I did.

Fast forward: We’re married. I’m pregnant and this year, I’ll be blowing out the candles on my 33rd birthday, with my husband by my side and our baby on the way.

Turns out, love doesn’t care about age, it just wants a chance.
