Chairman of the South-South Caucus in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) requires credible and widely accepted candidates to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

During the interview, he referenced a position previously expressed by a former president who emerged under the PDP, noting that candidate selection would be a critical factor in determining the party’s electoral success.

“Well, interestingly, one of the former presidents who became president under the PDP said for PDP to win the presidential, 2027 presidential election, they need the right candidates, not governors. And so, I can assure you that the PDP just need the right candidates, candidates that Nigerians want, the candidates that Nigerians trust,” he said.

Agbedi added that the party’s ability to present a unified front would play a significant role in achieving its objectives.

“And once we're able to come together and in a united front, you know, sponsor such candidates, of course, we don't need governors to win the election, but we have governors.

Of course, you know that we have governors. The two are enough for us, you know, and the other stakeholders in the party are ready to walk hand in gloves with them to ensure that victory is achieved,” he stated.

He also stressed the importance of consolidating support across different groups within the party structure, describing unity as essential to sustaining its operations.

“But most importantly, you know, bringing all groups in the party together to sustain and give life to the party. Because for some of us who have also been chairman, state chairman of this party before and has played several roles in the party, this is not the first time disagreements have been experienced in this party,” Agbedi added.
