Legal practitioner and political analyst Kenneth Okonkwo raised concerns about the internal stability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that certain actors are deliberately working to destabilize the opposition party.

Okonkwo alleged that some individuals are holding strategic meetings aimed at creating confusion within the ADC, insisting that these actions are not genuine internal disagreements but rather coordinated efforts driven by external forces seeking to weaken the party from within.

He further stated that they lack true political credibility and are instead being used as instruments in a broader scheme to undermine the legitimacy and cohesion of the ADC leadership, thereby fueling internal divisions.

According to Okonkwo, the situation is allegedly linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of attempting to truncate the progress of the ADC by exploiting internal crises to render the opposition ineffective and disorganized ahead of future political contests.

He stressed that the key motivation behind this alleged interference is to secure an advantage for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, claiming that weakening opposition parties early would limit credible competition and ensure a smoother political path for the ruling establishment.

Okonkwo added that Nigeria’s democratic space may be shrinking due to calculated efforts to destabilize rival parties.

In a recent interview with Channels Television, he said, “Some charlatans are meeting, some clowns are meeting and are being used by the APC to truncate the ADC because Tinubu does not want any competition in 2027. That is what is going on.
