Political Affairs Analyst Simeon Nnah has provided insight into emerging political dynamics in Nigeria, particularly the evolving conversations around alliances and coalition-building ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in a recent interview on News Central TV, Nnah discussed the implications of high-level meetings and strategic interactions among prominent political figures.

During the interview, Nnah referenced remarks made by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso regarding his assessment of key politicians.

“Kwankwaso said, ‘He is a senior politician; a two-term governor, Minister of Defence, and Deputy Speaker,’” Nnah recalled. He explained that this comment underscores the recognition of political experience and seniority in shaping negotiations and alliance discussions, particularly in efforts to bring figures like Peter Obi onto a shared platform.

According to Nnah, such assessments of experience and stature have historically played a decisive role in Nigeria’s political landscape, influencing who gets priority in coalition talks and how leadership positions within alliances are allocated.

“Issues of seniority, experience, and political positioning often determine the structure and strategy of alliances,” he added.

The analyst further highlighted that recent engagements between political camps suggest a possible shift in approach.

While personal ambitions and differences have historically stalled cooperation between leading figures, evolving political realities appear to be encouraging reconsideration of previous strategies.

Nnah noted that current pressures within the political system could push party leaders to seek common ground despite prior disagreements.

Emphasizing the pragmatic nature of Nigerian politics, Nnah argued that coalition-building is rarely driven by ideological alignment. Instead, he said, the focus is often on practical objectives, with the primary goal being the successful contestation of elections.
