The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced its maiden party congresses across the country, marking a significant step in its organizational development ahead of its first national convention scheduled for May 9, 2026.

In a press statement issued by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam, the NDC confirmed that the ward and polling unit congresses are taking place on May 1 and 2, respectively, as outlined in its official timetable.

The party further disclosed that local government congresses are slated for May 4, alongside state congresses on the same day, while zonal congresses are expected to be concluded on May 6.

According to the statement, the series of congresses will culminate in the party’s maiden National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja. The event is expected to draw accredited party members from across the federation, as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who will monitor proceedings in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The party leadership stated that preparations for the convention have been finalized by its Convention Planning Committee, assuring stakeholders that all arrangements are in place for a seamless and successful exercise.

It added that party officers at the state and national levels have been mandated to ensure strict adherence to the party’s constitution, guidelines, and timetable throughout the congresses and the convention process.

On logistics and security, the NDC emphasized that adequate measures have been put in place nationwide to guarantee hitch-free conduct of all activities, including the provision of necessary materials and coordination with relevant authorities.
