FG TARGETS 100,000 SALARIED COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS BY 2027

The Federal Government has announced a target to engage 100,000 salaried community health workers by 2027.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made this known on Thursday in Abuja while launching the Community Health Programme Continental Acceleration Plan 2026–2030.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening primary healthcare delivery and improving the welfare of community health workers.

The proposed improvements include:

- Reliable salary payments.

- Legal recognition and professional certification.

- Better working conditions and supervision.

- Career development opportunities.

Shettima also disclosed that the government's health sector initiative includes plans to revitalise over 17,000 primary healthcare centres and train 120,000 frontline health workers.

However, the 100,000 figure remains a government target, not an announcement of an ongoing recruitment exercise.

What happens next will be important to watch, particularly for healthcare workers and Nigerians seeking employment opportunities.
