BREAKING: President Tinubu has tasked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to chair the reconciliation committee for Benue State APC, with the view of resolving the issues between Governor Alia and SGF George Akume.

The Benue State Governor and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) have both been in a running battle for the control of Benue APC after their fall out, which has seen Benue APC having two state chairmen loyal to each of them.

The reconciliation committee is tasked with addressing and resolving the internal crisis rocking the party in the state, identifying root causes of factionalisation and disunity within the party, engaging critical stakeholders, and party organs to foster unity.

The committee’s mandate also includes proposing structural, procedural, and strategic reforms aimed at achieving lasting peace and political cohesion with a comprehensive report containing recommendations for consideration by the president.

In August, a similar committee was formed by President Tinubu to resolve the crisis in Bauchi State APC, with Speaker Abbas also tasked to chair it, and a comprehensive report on the way forward has been reportedly forwarded to President Tinubu.
