In the face of the current challenges being faced by Nigerians, the Centre For Righteous Living (CRIL), a Christian-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has called on the government at various levels to work together to alleviate the sufferings of poor Nigerians.

Dr. Olatunji Abolade, Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Centre For Righteous Living (CRIL), in a statement in Lagos, Nigeria, said: “At a time when Nigerians thought they were enjoying relative stability in prices of goods and commodities, the local market was triggered by internal and external forces that are making Nigerians to experience a very tough time from the problems unleashed on them through banditry, poor electricity supplies, and the biting effect of increase in the prices of fuel across board in the country as caused by the current Iran-US/Israeli war.”

Dr. Olatunji Abolade urged President Tinubu to do something about the poor state of insecurity, hike in fuel prices, and poor electricity supplies in Nigeria.

CRIL stated: “Nigeria has been enmeshed in a renewed national crises manifesting in insecurity in different parts of Nigeria, poor electricity supplies, and increase in the prices of petroleum products as caused by the on-going Iran-US/Israeli war.

“The price of petrol has jumped from N830 per litre in February to about N1,330 within a space of one month without any hope that there will be no further increase. There has also been serious complains about poor electricity supplies in different parts of the country.

“Yet, there have been incessant and violent attacks by bandits to the extent of raiding communities and worship centres without any confidence of protection from the government and its security agencies.

“Recent waves of attacks and banditry which emanated from the northern part of Nigeria has been uncontrollably moving down south, resulting in mass casualties and widespread kidnapping.

“We now want to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look into all these challenges and do something to raise the hope of Nigerians and alleviate the sufferings of the people.

“To stabilise the output and price of petroleum products in the Nigerian market, we call on the government to strengthen local refineries and increase the domestic outputs of crude oil to them, to ensure local fuel availability and reduce reliance on expensive imports. We believe this will also reduce pressure on foreign exchange.

“The government should not give up on the privatisation of government-owned refineries like that of Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna to promote efficiency and transparency in the downstream sector.

“We also suggest that the Federal Government redirect windfall gains from the rising oil prices to provide targeted social safety nets and cash transfers to the most vulnerable households, to effectively manage the impact of rising fuel prices.

“In the area of insecurity, we urge the government to do its best to equip the military to put an end to banditry in the country. We expect the government to harmonise its security policies and make use of its military technology and intelligence driven operations between the natives and the security forces.

“We also recommend that the Federal Government and the concerned stakeholders perfect the introduction of Community Policing into Nigeria’s Security apparatus.

We are of the opinion that the government at all levels cannot afford to toy with the welfare of Nigerians most especially in a time when elections are around the corner.

“We also advise the various governments at local and state levels to collaborate and support the government in making life easier for Nigerians.

“We believe if the government adopts these and other suggestions raised by other experts, Nigerians will be better for it, now and in the future.

“We assure the government of our unwavering support and prayers at all times.
