Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and former President Olusegun Obasanjo met on Wednesday amid renewed political consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.

Esther Umoh, Obi’s campaign photographer, shared photos of the two politicians on X, but did not disclose where they met or the details of their discussion.

“Earlier today, the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo,” Umoh wrote.

The meeting comes days after former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused Obasanjo of fabricating allegations against him to favour his kinsman ahead of the 2027 general election.

Atiku did not name the kinsman, but President Bola Tinubu, who is seeking re-election, is a Yoruba, like Obasanjo.

On January23, Obasanjo alleged that Atiku gave the late Ghali Umar Na’Abba, former speaker of the house of representatives, N5 million to begin impeachment proceedings against him during his first term in office.

The allegation sparked a war of words between both politicians.
