Ganduje’s son returns to APC after failed bid for reps ticket in NDC

By Jerrywright Ukwu

Abdulaziz Ganduje, eldest son of Abdullahi Ganduje, former Kano governor and ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has returned to the ruling party after his failed bid to secure a house of representatives ticket on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC).

Abdulaziz was formally received back into the APC on Sunday at the party’s ward office in Ganduje, his hometown in Dawakin Tofa LGA of Kano, where he collected his membership card.

His return comes months after he joined the NDC and obtained the party’s nomination form to contest the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado federal constituency seat in the house of representatives.

His earlier move to the NDC had attracted attention because the party is associated with Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano governor and a longstanding political rival of the Ganduje family.

The development marks a political U-turn for Abdulaziz, who had previously been associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement despite his father’s influential position in the APC.

A viral video had shown him meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the NDC nomination form, where he reportedly discussed his political ambition with the former governor.

His return to the APC also comes after the deadline for obtaining nomination forms had closed.
