Abdulaziz Yari, senator representing Zamfara west, has urged Nigerians to support the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Yari said the administration inherited deep rooted structural challenges requiring bold and decisive action.

He made the call on Sunday in Kaduna shortly after a special prayer organised by the Arewa Think Tank (ATT) to mark Tinubu’s 74th birthday.

Represented at the occasion by Tijjani Kaura, a former minister of foreign affairs, Yari said the president assumed office a time the country was confronted with multiple socio-economic and structural deficiencies.

He described prayers for the president as critical to national stability and progress.

“I came to join other Nigerians to pray for our president, because prayers for our president is prayers for our nation,” he said.

“So as we pray for our president, we are praying directly for the security and stability of all of us in our country and that’s why I’m here.”

He explained that the administration was compelled to take difficult decisions in order to address the scale of the problems it met on ground.

“When the President came in 2023, he met the Nigerian room with pitches, with holes, rain running down from the roof of the Nigerian country,” Yari said.

“And as he assumed power, he discovered that the holes are too many. So he had two options – either to cover all the pitches and prevent the rain from falling right onto the roof; or to remove the entire roofing to make a whole brand new roofing for longer sustainability And that was what he did and that is why Nigerians have the biggest difficulty.”

In his remarks, Mohammed Yakubu, convener of ATT, said the session was convened to honour the president’s leadership and acknowledge his resolve to confront long standing national challenges.

“At 74, Mr. President is not slowing down. He is confronting the realities others ran away from. He is fixing what others refused to touch. And that is why some people are uncomfortable,” Yakubu said.

“Let us be honest with ourselves, those who are shouting the loudest today are the same people who had opportunities yesterday and failed Nigeria.”

He noted that the administration’s policy direction reflects a willingness to implement reforms previously avoided by past governments.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took the bold step to remove fuel subsidy, a decision many feared but we all knew it was necessary,” he said.

“He unified the foreign exchange system to end years of distortion and corruption. He is investing in infrastructure, strengthening security architecture, and laying the foundation for economic revival through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Yakubu added.

“And let me say this clearly: reforms are not comfortable, but they are essential.

“Anyone promising easy solutions without sacrifice is not being honest with Nigerians.”

Yakubu further urged the president to remain focused and resolute, adding that millions of Nigerians stand with him.
