‎In a recent statement via his official X account, former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the state of electricity supply in Nigeria, raising concerns about unfulfilled campaign promises and worsening living conditions.

Tinubu in Jos confirms ‘don't vote for me’ prediction on power supply. During the 2023 campaign, President Tinubu made a clear electoral promise: 'If I don’t give you constant electricity in four years, don’t vote for me for a second term'," he wrote.

‎In his post, Obi recalled that during the 2023 presidential campaign, Tinubu assured Nigerians that he would deliver stable electricity within four years or risk losing public support for a second term and argued that recent developments suggest the country is moving in the opposite direction, with power supply declining instead of improving.

‎According to Obi, Nigeria’s electricity generation was above 4,000 megawatts around the time Tinubu assumed office, however, he noted that the current average supply has dropped below that level, while electricity tariffs have increased, placing more financial pressure on citizens and stressed that many Nigerians now struggle to access consistent power despite paying higher costs.

‎He further explained that Nigeria’s electricity consumption per person remains among the lowest globally, comparing figures across Africa, Obi said Nigeria’s consumption is significantly below the continental average, highlighting the scale of the country’s energy challenges, he warned that this gap reflects deeper structural issues that require urgent attention.
