Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has written to US President Donald Trump, alleging a hidden genocide against Judeo-Christians in South-Eastern Nigeria. In the letter, Kanu commends Trump for his declaration that the US is prepared to act militarily and cut aid if Nigeria fails to protect its Christian population .
Kanu's letter highlights several incidents, including:
- Nkpor Biafra Heroes Day Massacre (May 30, 2016): At least 150 peaceful Christian worshippers were killed, and bodies were dumped in rivers.
- National High School Aba Massacre (February 9, 2016): 22 people were killed on-site, and 13 bodies were exhumed from a borrow pit.
- Operation Python Dance II (September 2017)*l: The Nigerian military allegedly killed many Christians in the South-East.
- Obigbo Massacre (October 2020): Over 2,000 Igbo youths were killed in "counter-terrorism" operations.
Kanu urges Trump to:
- Launch a US-led independent inquiry into state-sponsored massacres of Judeo-Christians in Eastern Nigeria.
- Convene emergency Congressional hearings on the Igbo Christian genocide.
- Impose Magnitsky Act sanctions on top Nigerian officials implicated in human rights abuses.
- Support an internationally-supervised referendumon self-determination for the Igbo people
