Voters across the Federal Capital Territory are voting today in the Area Council elections. The exercise covers all six councils in Abuja.

The poll will produce new chairmen and councillors for:

Kwali

The Independent National Electoral Commission is conducting the election. Officials opened polling units by 8.30 am with voter accreditation and voting using the BVAS system.

Security agencies deployed thousands of personnel to maintain order. Security patrols are visible around major polling centres.

Early reports indicate slow material distribution in some locations. Voting later picked up as materials arrived and accreditation commenced.

The election is seen as a key grassroots political test ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party structures in the capital are using the outcome to gauge voter strength and local influence.
