Prominent politicians from the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party in Ukwa East Local Government Area defected to the Labour Party and endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term in 2027.

The defectors include serving and former political office holders such as a current state assembly member and former commissioners. They announced their support during a political gathering in Ohanku community.

Governor Otti welcomed the new members and linked their support to ongoing development programmes. He also promised restoration of electricity to Ndoki communities before the end of March 2026, a long standing demand in the area.
