Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is fuming over an unauthorized school closure directive issued by a director in the FCT Secondary Education Board. The directive, which was circulated without Wike's approval, claimed that schools in Abuja would be shut down due to security concerns

Wike has suspended the Mandate Secretary of Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, indefinitely and vowed to sanction other officials involved in the unauthorized action. He emphasized that there is no security threat in Abuja that warrants the closure of schools, citing that other states like Kaduna, Nassarawa, and Kogi have not shut down their schools

The FCT Administration has assured residents that schools are safe and that the academic calendar remains unchanged. Wike has also directed the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security initiatives to reinforce safety in the capital
