In a statement that has since gone massively viral, Mahama said Ghanaians "pray every day for Nigeria to do well so they don't end up running to a small country like Ghana." He said it with his chest. No apology, no qualifier, no diplomatic softening.

And Nigerians? They're in their feelings.

On one hand, it's shade. Crystal clear, politically packaged shade. Mahama basically reminded the world that Nigerians — from the largest economy in Africa, from the giant of the continent — have been trooping into Ghana in numbers large enough to make a sitting president comment on it. That stings.

On the other hand... is he wrong?

The japa wave is real. The economic pressure is real. The fact that Accra has quietly become a relocation destination for Nigerian professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs is not a secret.
