STATEMENT BY RT. HON. OMOSEDE IGBINEDION ON THE BULLY1NG INCIDENT AT IGBINEDION EDUCATION CENTRE, BENIN CITY

I have received with deep concern the reports regarding the recent bully!ng incident involving a group of students at Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City.

As an alumna of this great institution and a proud product of the values it seeks to instill in its students, I find the incident deeply troubling. Igbinedion Education Centre has long stood for discipline, respect, excellence, and the nurturing of young minds in a safe and supportive environment. Any act that undermines these values must be firmly condemned.

I commend the swift and responsible actions taken by the Board and Management of the school in addressing the situation, including the expulsion of the students involved, the invitation extended to the police to formally document the incident, and the decision to ensure that the affected student received independent medical evaluation and care.

Bully!ng in any form is unacceptable. Our schools must remain spaces where every child feels safe, protected, and respected. Incidents such as this remind us of the importance of continuous guidance, proper supervision, and the collective responsibility of parents, educators, and the wider community in shaping the character and conduct of our young people.

I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the student who was subjected to this unfortunate experience and commend the courage shown in bringing the matter to light. My thoughts are also with the parents and guardians who trust our institutions with the care and development of their children.

While the actions already taken demonstrate that the school does not tolerate such behavior, this moment should also serve as an opportunity for reflection, education, and renewed commitment to fostering kindness, empathy, and respect among students.

As the Member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, I remain committed to supporting policies and initiatives that protect children, strengthen educational institutions, and promote safe learning environments across our nation.

I urge all students to remember that strength is shown not through intimidation, but through compassion, respect, and the courage to stand up for what is right.
