They Fell in Love During NYSC, But POP Changed Everything

When Maryam met Daniel during NYSC, neither of them expected anything serious.

It started with simple conversations during CDS. Then came the random calls, checking on each other after work and those little moments that slowly made them realise they were becoming more than friends.

Before long, everyone around them knew they were together.

They talked about life after NYSC, their careers and even what their future could look like. For them, POP was supposed to be the beginning of another chapter together.

Then their POP dates came.

Daniel got a job opportunity in Lagos, while Maryam was offered a position in Abuja.

At first, they promised each other that distance wouldn't change anything.

“We've come this far. We can handle this,” Daniel told her.

But real life after NYSC was different.

Work became demanding. Calls became shorter. Replies became slower. The little misunderstandings they used to laugh about suddenly became serious arguments.

Months later, Maryam realised they were no longer the same two people who used to look forward to seeing each other after CDS.

They still cared about each other, but their lives were moving in different directions.

Eventually, they had to make a difficult decision.

Their NYSC journey had brought them together, but life after NYSC had taught them that loving someone doesn't always mean your paths will continue in the same direction.

Years later, Maryam still smiles whenever she remembers those CDS days.

Sometimes, NYSC gives you a certificate. Sometimes, it gives you a lifelong friend. And sometimes, it gives you a love story you will never forget.
