Your service year is an opportunity to gain experience, learn new skills, and create something you can show employers even after passing out.
You don't have to wait until you get your dream job before building a professional portfolio. You can start right where you are!
Here are 5 ways to build your portfolio during NYSC:
1. Document your work: Keep records of projects, tasks, and achievements from your PPA or CDS activities.
2. Learn a valuable skill: Whether it's writing, graphic design, photography, data analysis, or social media management, choose a skill that matches your career goals.
3. Create sample projects: If you don't have enough work experience, create your own projects to demonstrate what you can do.
4. Keep your work in one place: Use LinkedIn, Google Drive, Behance, GitHub, or a simple portfolio website, depending on your field.
5. Update your CV and portfolio regularly: Include measurable achievements, certificates, and relevant experience as you gain them.
Remember, employers don't only want to know what you studied. They also want to see what you can do.
Don't let your POP day arrive with nothing to show for the skills and experience you've gained. Start building today, one project at a time!
Share this with a corps member who wants to improve their career prospects before passing out.
