My Biggest NYSC Culture Shock Moment

Before NYSC, I thought I had a good idea of how different parts of Nigeria were, but my posting showed me I still had a lot to learn.

My biggest culture shock was seeing how closely people in my new community lived and interacted. Neighbours were more like family, everyone looked out for each other, and even strangers could easily start a conversation with you.

The funny part was trying to understand the local language. There were times people would talk and laugh, and I would just smile because I had no idea what was being said. I had to ask for translations almost every time.

At first, everything felt strange, but with time, I started appreciating the culture. The warmth, kindness, and simplicity of the people taught me that Nigeria’s beauty is in its diversity.

NYSC didn’t just take me to a new place; it helped me see my country and myself differently.
