Beyond the Khaki: Build a Strong NYSC Alumni Network

Every year, hundreds of thousands of corps members complete their service and move on with their lives. Along the way, they gain valuable experience, professional skills, and networks. Unfortunately, much of this knowledge is lost to future batches. I believe NYSC should create a structured alumni network that keeps former corps members connected to the scheme and to those currently serving.

Imagine a platform where alumni can mentor serving corps members, share job opportunities, offer internship placements, and provide career advice based on their own experiences. Former corps members who have become entrepreneurs could even partner with NYSC to create internships or employment opportunities for fresh graduates.

The network could also support community development by encouraging alumni to sponsor or continue impactful projects started during their service year. This would transform NYSC from a one-year programme into a lifelong professional community.

The service year may end, but the relationships, knowledge, and opportunities it creates should continue to benefit future generations. A stronger alumni network would ensure that every batch leaves behind more than memories they leave behind a foundation for those coming after them.
