There was a day in orientation camp when my body suddenly began behaving like it worning out.
I felt weak and decided that what I needed was something healthy and refreshing. So, I quietly made my way to Mami Market in search of salvation.
A cheerful woman was selling all sorts of goodies, natural drinks, yoghurt, fruit juice, and colourful packs of fruit salad that looked fresh enough to feature on a billboard.
I asked for fruit salad and noticed two sizes. The bigger pack already had groundnuts sprinkled on it, while the smaller one was sitting there plain and minding its business. Since I was really craving fruit salad and wanted the size that satisfy my belly, I confidently picked the larger pack.
Then the woman casually said, "We usually add milk."
Milk? With fruits? And groundnuts, too?
I was confused!
Well, before I could start questioning her life choices, I noticed other corps members happily adding milk to theirs. One lady beside me was enjoying her own portion with such enthusiasm that felt it taste better with milk. So I decided "Why not? Let me experience this new level of healthy living."
Healthy living, my foot!
By the time I got back to my bunk and opened the container, I realized the milk and groundnut had staged a takeover. The poor fruits had completely lost their identity. Every spoonful looked like a chemistry experiment gone wrong.
The groundnuts were the first i removed. "Eww!" I expressed irritatingly. Then I began washing each piece of fruit with water like a surgeon trying to save a patient.
At that moment, I knew adventure had betrayed me.
Since that day, I never had fruit salad with milk and groundnut combination again.
Honestly, even if I had managed to finish that combination, I am convinced i would purge for one whole week!
