Tottenham Hotspur claimed a massive win over Manchester City with a 2–0 triumph at the Etihad Stadium, sending a strong message early in the Premier League season.

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring in the 35th minute after a swift counterattack, his goal confirmed following a VAR check. Just before halftime, João Palhinha doubled Spurs’ lead, capitalizing on a mistake from City goalkeeper James Trafford.

Manchester City pushed hard in the second half, introducing the likes of Phil Foden, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva, but they struggled to break down Tottenham’s disciplined defense. Erling Haaland had a chance with a header before the break, but City’s attack failed to find its usual rhythm.

Tottenham’s organization and clinical finishing under manager Thomas Frank frustrated the home side throughout. Spurs even came close to a third late on when Solanke tested Trafford again.
