Chelsea Collapse as 10-Man Blues Fall 3-1 to Brighton

Chelsea suffered another setback at Stamford Bridge as Brighton came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory, punishing Trevoh Chalobah’s red card with a ruthless second-half display.

Enzo Fernández had given the Blues the lead in the 24th minute, heading in at the far post after Reece James’ deflected cross. Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked in control until early in the second half, when Chalobah was sent off following a VAR review for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

That dismissal turned the tide. Brighton pressed forward and found their equaliser in the 77th minute through substitute Danny Welbeck, who powered home a header from Yankuba Minteh’s delivery.

As Chelsea tired with 10 men, Brighton’s substitutes made the difference. Maxim De Cuyper put the visitors ahead in stoppage time with a header from Mats Wieffer’s cross, before Welbeck struck again in the 100th minute, drilling in at the near post to seal a famous away win.

The result extends Chelsea’s winless run to three league matches and drops them to seventh, while Brighton climb into the top half. It was also the first time since 2011 that Chelsea lost a Premier League home game by two or more goals after leading at half-time.

For Welbeck, it was another memorable outing against Chelsea, adding to a record of seven goal involvements in eight league meetings with the Blues.
