Crystal Palace dealt a stunning blow to Liverpool’s flawless start to the season, as Eddie Nketiah struck a heart-stopping 97th-minute volley to seal a 2–1 victory at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles had taken an early lead through Ismaila Sarr’s ninth-minute poacher’s finish his ninth of the season after a deflected set piece found him in space. Throughout the first half, Palace threatened to double their advantage, testing Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson with efforts from Yeremy Pino, Daniel Muñoz, and Jean-Philippe Mateta, the latter even hitting the woodwork.

Liverpool awoke in the second half, creating chances through Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, but were kept at bay. Then, in the 87th minute, substitute Federico Chiesa levelled for the Reds, restoring parity.

Just when it looked like the spoils would be shared, Palace produced one final twist. A flick from former Liverpool target Marc Guéhi fed Nketiah, whose volley breached the defence and survived a VAR offside check to ignite scenes of wild celebration.

With this win, Liverpool’s perfect run comes to an end, while Palace remain unbeaten, extending their run to 18 matches in all competitions a feat matched only once in their history.
