From Rejection to the Premier League: How Zadok Yohanna Turned Setbacks into Success

For many young footballers, being dropped from a national team can feel like the end of the road. For Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna, it became the beginning of something much bigger.

The 18-year-old recently completed a reported £21 million move from Swedish club AIK to Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. Reflecting on his journey, Yohanna revealed that being dropped from both Nigeria's U-17 and U-20 teams within six months pushed him to improve rather than give up.

According to Yohanna, Nigeria's youth camps were highly competitive, with more than 70 players fighting for limited spots. Instead of losing confidence, he worked harder in training and developed the resilience needed to compete at the highest level.

His rise from Ikon Allah FC to AIK and now the English Premier League shows that rejection is not always a setback—it can be the motivation needed to achieve greater success.
