Szoboszlai: The Free-Kick Maestro

What makes Szoboszlai’s strike especially remarkable? It came from 32.2 yards out making it the longest-range goal of the Premier League season to date and the latest winning free-kick Liverpool has scored since Steven Gerrard’s 87th-minute thunderbolt in August 2007.

And history was made even beyond the raw numbers. Szoboszlai became only the 17th player to score a direct free-kick for Liverpool in Premier League history and the first non-Coutinho or Alexander-Arnold to do so since James Milner achieved the feat against Aston Villa in February 2016.

With that beauty of a goal, Liverpool kept their perfect start to the campaign alive. They’ll head into the international break sitting atop the Premier League table still the only club on maximum points. Remarkably, they’ve now scored in 37 consecutive league matches, dating back to September 2024, marking their longest-scoring streak in the competition’s history.
