When thieves broke into my house, they stole both my iPhone and Android phone. I reported everything to the police and provided the IMEI numbers, but I refused to just sit and wait. I started using Find My iPhone to track my device, and whenever a location appeared, I followed the lead and made enquiries.
For two whole months, the phone went completely offline. Then on the 22nd, I suddenly got a notification showing my iPhone at Kaduna Central Market. The next morning, the location changed to an area behind Kaduna State Stadium. I sent screenshots to friends around there, and surprisingly, they both mentioned the same person a suspected thief known as Kusu.
I went back to the police with everything I had gathered, but when I wasn't getting the response I hoped for, I called my brother, who is an NSCDC officer. I sent him all the locations and evidence, and within six hours, he and his team arrested the suspect. The suspect eventually revealed what happened to both phones, and after two months of tracking, waiting and following every possible lead, I finally got my iPhone back!
That experience taught me something I'll never forget: sometimes, information and persistence can make all the difference. I didn't have all the answers, but I refused to give up until I found a breakthrough.
If your phone was stolen and you managed to track its location, would you keep following the leads yourself or leave everything to the police?
