‎The Intern Who Was Forced to Make Everyone’s Coffee

My manager made the new intern prepare coffee for everyone in the office for three months. She never complained, even though she was clearly doing more than what she was hired for. On her final day, something unexpected happened the CEO, who had barely visited our office in over a year, suddenly walked in.

‎He walked straight past my manager’s desk, hugged the intern and asked, “How was it, sweetheart? Did they treat you well?” We were all confused until we discovered the truth: she was his daughter. He had deliberately sent her to start from the bottom so she could understand how the company actually operated.

‎

‎Before leaving, she smiled and said, “Everyone was lovely. Almost everyone.” Then she handed her father a notebook containing the names of everyone who had helped her without being asked. My name was on the list because I shared my lunch with her on her first day.

‎

‎A month later, I got promoted. My manager, on the other hand, was sent for a training course on how to treat people. Sometimes you never know who the “ordinary” person sitting beside you really is.

‎

‎Do you think people should be treated well because of who they are, or simply because they are human?
