Her name is Kechi Okwuchi, a Nigerian woman whose story reminds us that life can change in a matter of seconds.
On December 10, 2005, 16-year-old Kechi boarded Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145, travelling from Abuja to Port Harcourt. She was a student at Loyola Jesuit College, returning home for the Christmas holidays.
But that journey turned into a nightmare.
The plane crashed, killing 107 people. Kechi was one of only two survivors.
She suffered severe burns covering approximately 65% of her body. She was flown to South Africa for treatment, where she spent months fighting for her life.
While other teenagers were enjoying school, making friends and planning their futures, Kechi was undergoing painful medical procedures and more than 100 reconstructive surgeries.
But she refused to allow tragedy to write the final chapter of her life.
She eventually moved to the United States, continued her education and graduated with first-class honours from the University of St. Thomas in 2015.
In 2017, she stood before millions of viewers on America's Got Talent, using her voice to tell a story that words alone could hardly express.
She became a finalist.
Today, her story is a powerful reminder that scars do not mean someone's life is over. Sometimes, the people who have been through the darkest moments have the courage to inspire the rest of us.
THE BIG QUESTION:
If life took everything you had planned away from you in one terrible moment, would you have the courage to start again, or would the pain be too much to overcome?
Let's hear your thoughts.
