Grace was a 58-year-old widow who lived in a small village with her only son, Daniel. She lost her husband when Daniel was just five years old and raised him single-handedly.
Life was difficult. Grace sold vegetables in the market, washed clothes for wealthy families and sometimes went without food just to pay her son's school fees.
Whenever Daniel complained about not having the things his classmates had, she would smile and say, "One day, my son, you will have everything you dream of."
Years passed, and Daniel eventually gained admission into the university. Unfortunately, during his final year, he was diagnosed with a serious illness and needed urgent medical attention.
Grace had no money. She had already spent her entire savings on his education.
The only valuable thing she owned was a small piece of land her late husband had left for her.
Without hesitation, she sold it to pay for her son's treatment.
Thankfully, Daniel recovered and eventually graduated.
He later secured a good job in another city and started enjoying a comfortable life. But as time passed, his visits home became less frequent.
Whenever Grace called, he would say he was busy with work.
One day, Grace fell seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital. A neighbour called Daniel to inform him.
His response was heartbreaking:
"Please, I'm in the middle of something important. I'll try to come next week."
Sadly, Grace passed away before he arrived.
When Daniel eventually returned home, he found an old exercise book containing records of everything his mother had spent on his education.
On the last page, she had written:
"My son, I may not live long enough to enjoy the fruits of your success, but seeing you become somebody in life has always been my greatest happiness. Just remember that your mother loves you."
Daniel broke down in tears.
He had spent years chasing success, forgetting the woman who sacrificed everything to give him a future.
QUESTION:
Why do some people wait until they lose their parents before they realise how much they sacrificed for them?
If your mother is still alive, when was the last time yu genuinely made her feel loved?
