My nephew is just 19, a 200-level Computer Science student. Every month, I faithfully send him ₦100,000 for his upkeep, so I never suspected he was struggling financially.
Then two months ago, my aunt called me with shocking news he had been arrested by the EFCC over an alleged online fraud case.
When we got there, the things they had recovered from him left us speechless: a Mercedes-Benz CLA, Lexus RX 350 SUV, MacBook M5, Alienware 18, two iPhones, and even a bungalow hostel building we never knew he owned.
What shocked us even more was that he barely came home once in a semester and never showed off any of these things on social media. We eventually secured his bail and decided to check his academic records. Surprisingly, his transcript was genuine. He had a 4.48 CGPA, although he had a carryover in CSC 206 (Numerical Analysis).
Till today, what I can't understand is how a 19-year-old managed to hide an entire lifestyle from his family while still maintaining such impressive grades.
