‎While in school, I rented a house in a rough neighborhood without knowing it was filled with drug dealers and street boys. Whenever I bought something from a nearby kiosk and had small change left, I would tell the seller to use it to buy cigarettes for the boys who hung around there. They got to know me and started calling me “Senior Man.”

‎One night, after studying late for an exam, my friend and I were returning home when some armed boys stopped us in a dark alley. They demanded our phones, money, and other belongings. One even threatened me with a dagger.

‎Just when I thought we were in serious trouble, one of them shone a torch on my face and recognized me. He remembered me as the guy who regularly bought them cigarettes. He told their leader, and we were allowed to go without being harmed.

‎That night taught me something I'll never forget: a little kindness can make a big difference when you least expect it. You never know who might stand up for you someday.
