Something happened last night that shocked me, and I bet something like this must’ve happened to you too without you knowing.
This is a real story, so I won’t be using their real names.
Around June this year, while coming back from work, I met two guys, Abraham and Judas.
I was about to enter one street when they both hailed me from afar, so I stopped to interact with them.
I rolled down the window, they came closer, greeted me, and we had a brief conversation.
I’ve known Abraham and Judas for more than a decade.
We played street football together years ago, so these weren’t strangers to me.
When we were done exchanging greetings and all of that, just before I drove off, they asked me to “show them love.”
I tried telling them, “Next time,” but they kept insisting that I should just do something for them that night.
They reminded me that every time we ran into each other, I always told them “next time,” and how difficult it was for them to see me using that particular route home.
And this wasn’t even the first time we had met randomly.
Sometimes, I would see only Abraham. Other times, I would see only Judas. And each time, I would tell them I’d send them something the next time we met.
So that day, I decided to just do something for both of them. Plus, I was in a very good mood.
I asked for their account number.
Before I could even finish pronouncing the words “account number,” Judas quickly started calling out his own.
My plan was to send the money separately, but Abraham suggested that since Judas was already calling his account number, I should just send it there since they’re friends and live close to each other.
Abraham added that he uses a button phone, while Judas uses an Android phone, so I should send it to Judas and they would share it.
I tried sending the money right there, but the network was bad. They could also see it from my phone how network wasn’t allowing the transfer.
I tried multiple times, but it didn’t still go through.
I told them, “You know what? I’ll save the account number. Tomorrow, I’ll send it, when you guys see it, share it 50/50.”
Those were my exact words.
Also, I didn’t mention the amount.
The next day came and passed, and I completely forgot about it.
Three days later, I was trying to write a story on my phone’s notepad when I saw the account number.
Then I remembered.
I copied the account number into my OPay app. What I initially wanted to send was 20,000, so they could take 10,000 each.
But then I thought, “These guys must have been refreshing their account all these days to check if I had sent the money.”
So I decided to increase it to 50,000.
I sent 50,000 to Judas’ UBA account.
June, July and August passed, and I never saw either of them, because I hadn’t used that route for a while.
Until yesterday, while I was driving back from an event, I saw Abraham.
We were approaching each other, and when we got really close, I noticed he was holding a machete and carrying a sack bag.
I asked where he was coming from, and he told me he had gone to clear grass at a building site for someone who wanted to resume construction.
Then he proceeded to thank me for the money, saying that if they had my number, they would have called to show their appreciation.
He told me Judas gave him 5,000.
According to him, Judas said I sent 10,000.
I was shocked and was like, “You don’t mean it?”
I told him I sent 50,000.
He was shocked too, but he doubted me.
I insisted that it was 50,000 I sent to Judas, while reminding him the money was to be shared equally between them.
Abraham kept doubting me, until I opened my Opay app, went through my transaction history, found the transfer and showed it to him.
He collected my phone, looked at the transaction and couldn’t believe his eyes.
He confirmed that I actually sent 50,000 to Judas.
He apologized for not believing me, saying it was because of the trust he had in Judas, his childhood friend, and the fact that I kept telling them “next time,” which made him think I was playing a joke on him.
But before Abraham left my presence last night, he kept repeating these words:
“So Judas get mind do me this kind thing? You see Judas? I go kill am this night, I swear down.”
At some point, he started crying, overwhelmed by pain, anger, and a desire for quick revenge.
Then he ran off.
I sat inside watching him disappear from the side mirror, and I honestly didn’t know what he was going to do with the fact that he had a machete in his hand at the point of the revelation.
Tried calling back to calm down, but he was long gone.
Trust me, the picture below is exactly what Judas would have seen if Abraham had met him last night.
