In a rather unusual but attention-grabbing disciplinary measure, authorities at Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), Ogun State, sanctioned a group of students accused of bullying their peers.
Instead of the traditional suspension or outright expulsion, the students were made to parade around campus wearing graduation gowns while holding placards boldly inscribed with the words: “I Am a Bully.”
The move, which has since gone viral online, sparked mixed reactions. Some praised the institution for using a creative and corrective method to shame the offenders while still keeping them in school, hoping the experience would serve as both a lesson and deterrent. Others, however, argued that public humiliation could have long-term psychological effects on the students involved.
This disciplinary action has reignited conversations around bullying on Nigerian campuses and the best approaches schools can adopt to tackle it effectively.
