What started as a quiet Monday morning in a Senior Secondary School class, quickly turned into a moment that would haunt the entire community for years to come.

Ayotunde and Damilola had been classmates since JSS1. Both bright, popular and full of dreams, they were often seen together, laughing, studying, playing football. Their friendship was strong, but everything began to change when Bisola joined their class.

Bisola was beautiful, outspoken and new. Naturally, she drew attention. But what no one expected was how far that attention would go or how deadly it would become. At first, it was harmless competition. Both boys tried to impress her: Ayotunde, with his jokes and charm; Damilola, with his grades and quiet confidence. It became obvious they both liked her, soon, the friendly bond they once shared began to crack.

Whispers turned to arguments. Friendly football games turned tense, no one thought it would escalate. Until that morning. During a literature lesson, the teacher had briefly stepped out. A casual teasing from Ayotunde triggered something darker in Damilola.

Witnesses say Damilola stood up, approached Ayotunde’s seat and without warning pulled out a sharp object believed to have been hidden in his bag. Before anyone could react, he stabbed his classmate in the chest. Chaos broke out, students screamed and teachers rushed in. But it was too late. Ayotunde collapsed, bleeding heavily. He was rushed to the school clinic and then to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Damilola stood frozen, in tears, unable to believe what he had done. The school was shut down for several days. Police arrived, investigations began. Two families were destroyed in one moment of uncontrollable rage.

Bisola, the girl at the centre of it all, was traumatized. She never returned to the school.
