Daily Brief : Meet Nigeria’s Current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

The current Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) is Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere‑Ekun. She was sworn in on August 22, 2024, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Justice Kekere‑Ekun is the second woman in Nigeria’s history to become Chief Justice, after Justice Aloma Mukhtar. A seasoned jurist, she began her legal career as a magistrate in Lagos before rising through the ranks to the Supreme Court in 2013.
Her appointment marks a significant moment for gender representation and judicial reform in Nigeria.
