Last week a 28-year-old final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, has been confirmed dead in an apparent suicide incident that has sent shockwaves through the campus community.

The deceased, identified as Arobo Precious, an HND II student in the Department of Computer Science, was found hanging in a bush near his residence in the Owo area on the evening of Tuesday, June 18.

According to local reports, a suicide note was discovered at the scene, alongside a troubling social media video he posted hours before his death. In the clip, Precious mentioned the name of a young woman, Opeyemi Eniayewu, whom he claimed played a role in his emotional distress.

“Eniayewu Opeyemi was the one who got me into this… to me there is nothing anymore,” he allegedly wrote in the caption of the video that has since gone viral among students.

Police Confirm Incident

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Spokesperson SP Olayinka Alayande told newsmen that the case was reported around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Upon receiving the information, detectives from the Owo division visited the scene, documented the evidence, and recovered the corpse. His body has been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for autopsy,” the police spokesperson said.

Campus in Mourning

Students, lecturers, and staff members at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of one of their own. Precious was described as intelligent, quiet, and well-liked by peers. Many are still struggling to come to terms with the news, with grief and shock spreading through the campus.

“He was always calm and respectful. No one saw this coming,” a classmate shared anonymously.

Burial and Next Steps

Sources close to the family confirm that Precious has since been buried, though official condolences and further statements are still being awaited from the institution’s management.

Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding his death, including the alleged emotional triggers mentioned in his final video.
