Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, a distinguished Nigerian medical doctor and former Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, has been serving as Nigeria’s Minister of Education since 23 October 2024 following a cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  .

Alausa graduated with an MBBS from the University of Lagos in 1993 and completed his medical residency in the United States, including a stint as Chief Medical Resident at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital  . He also specialized in nephrology at the Medical College of Wisconsin before returning to Nigeria.

Before taking over the education ministry, Alausa led Citibank Nigeria as chairman. His shift from health to education underscores his growing role in public service  .

Since his appointment he has announced plans to review and improve basic education, including more practical learning experiences, teacher support, and curriculum reform  .

Dr. Alausa now heads the Federal Ministry of Education, overseeing policies for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
