Nigeria To Fully Adopt CBT For SSCE Exams By 2026

The Federal Government has announced that all Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) will fully transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) by 2026.

According to the Ministry of Education, the move is part of ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s education assessment system, improve efficiency and curb examination malpractice. Pilot programmes are already underway in both public and private centres across the country, testing the feasibility of the new approach in various locations.

Officials say the shift to CBT will not only reduce logistical challenges associated with paper-based exams but also align Nigeria’s secondary school assessments with global best practices. The Federal Government has assured stakeholders that adequate infrastructure, training and resources will be provided to ensure a smooth rollout before the 2026 deadline.
