Imaobong Ekanem and Edet Okon were just classmates back in their primary school days in Calabar. They sat two rows apart, shared notes and often competed for the top spot in class. Though their bond was strong, it remained rooted in academics and youthful friendship. There were no signs of romance just mutual respect, a few shared jokes and the occasional teasing over who got higher scores in mathematics.
After graduating from primary then secondary school, life took its usual unpredictable turn. They lost touch for a while during WAEC and JAMB preparations. Fate had its own plans. Both of them applied to the University of Uyo, unknowingly choosing the same course Mass Communication.
Registration day on campus turned into a pleasant surprise when Imaobong, standing in line, heard a familiar voice call her name. It was Edet, taller now, with a confident smile that hadn’t changed. That single reunion sparked a renewed friendship, this time on a deeper level. From course work to late night study sessions and group projects, they became inseparable once more.
As the semesters rolled by, what started as a rekindled connection blossomed into something more. By 200 level, their friends already referred to them as “Mr. and Mrs.” and final year, they were officially a couple.
Today, Imaobong and Edet are not only graduates but also best friends and life partners, grateful that destiny brought them together once more. Their story is a gentle reminder that sometimes love grows quietly, in the most familiar of places, like a classroom.
